Lancaster DIOCESAN BRANCH - Formed 1953

Treasurer: Mrs Christine Burke
Vice-President: Mrs Susan Gornall
Branch Chaplain: Rev. Fr. Tony Ashcroft

Sections at: Barrow-in-Furness, Blackpool, Bolton-le-Sands, Carlisle, Crosby, Fleetwood, Garstang, Haydock, Lytham, Penrith, Poulton-le-Fylde, St. Anne’s, Thornton, Ulverston and Walney Island.Lancaster Branch covers all of Cumbria and parts of Lancashire and Merseyside, and consists of 15 sections and 15 direct members.
We have representatives for WUCWO, CAFOD, OLC, Women together in the Diocese, Relief and Refugee and Women’s World day of Prayer to name but a few organisations. Some members help at our local Shrine at Fernyhalgh, near Preston, where we have a Diocesan and OLC Pilgrimage every year. This year, to celebrate our Centenary year, we hope to have a special Pilgrimage to the Shrine on the feast day of Saint Margaret Clitherow. While all sections are involved in fund-raising and ecumenical work within their Parishes and for the Branch, raising money for various charities in many different ways, the friendship among our members is most important, with members of adjoining sections meeting regularly for social and celebratory occasions.
Ulverston Section celebrated the 50th Birthday of its opening, on Saturday 24th February 2007.
There was a Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated at 10am on Sunday 25th February at which the Lancaster Branch Banner was placed on the Altar. Members were Readers, Special Ministers and carried the Offerings in Procession.
An Anniversary Dinner was held at the Armadale Hotel at Arrad Foot on 28th February to which Regional Officer Sue Gornall, Branch President Christine Burke and the Chairman from both the Barrow and Walney Sections were invited.
Two members, Alice Whitehead and May Broad celebrated their 90th Birthdays in February and Mamie Maguire had celebrated her 90th Birthday on 3rd December 2006.
